Revise J / K / L Functionality
in progress

Currently, when pressing L, the playhead increases the speed, which is great! But upon pressing J, the playhead slows down rather than reverses direction. It would be ideal if it would reverse and subsequent presses of J would increase the speed in which it plays in reverse. K would pause & PLAY, then revert speed to 100%. It's great to have the option to play in slow-mo but maybe that could be a separate key (J + modifier key) so the JKL function the same as some other players; Cinesync, Quicktime, etc.

Hi Terron, we have added a fix for the "K" button reverting to 100% and toggling play state. Unfortunately on browsers a negative playback rate is not possible (playing in reverse).

Philip Floetotto that's a great start. Thank you implementing this.

Thanks for the feedback Mike. Improving the J/K/L ranks higher for us as we consistently view our animation at different playback speeds -shaving or adding a playback frame or two makes a huge difference. The current locked playback speeds are of no real help as is as they are to drastic. The closest to 24 fps is 18 fps or 30 fps and if we could do half frames we would.

Jason Edwardh: OK then. I've merged this request into the JKL shuttling one so that it doesn't get buried in our development roadmap.
I suppose it's still worth mentioning that JKL control does provide finer-grained control – but only in forward playback.

Thanks for reaching out! We've looked into this often, including very recently. It's tricky because web streaming systems REALLY don't like reverse playback. But we definitely understand the need (for example, we'd really like to improve J/K/L playback functionality with this, which your use case would benefit from) and we haven't given up.

+1 Totally backing up this request !
Would be great being able to navigate the timeline in a usual editing package way.
