Sequence Playback doesn't work well with different resolutions
Mike Jennings
Thanks for reaching out. This is a known limitation. It's a hard problem to solve because it's currently using an experimental API that's only available in Chrome's engine, and its abilities are limited.
Can you tell us a little more about the workflow that calls for this improvement?

Mike Jennings: We have quite an unusual pipeline at the moment. We're combining footage from different cameras with different lenses and are animating 2D on top of them. Because the 2D Animation happens on the full resolution undistorted plates and needs to be approved before going into the next pipeline step we need to validate them using SyncSketch. Because the directors want to have all shots within the context of the edit we rely on the Sequence Playback feature. But as mentioned the plates have quite different resolutions and aspect ratios because they are undistorted.

Johannes Lübke: I see. Well, since it would likely be a considerable amount of work to accommodate your workflow (basically writing an online video NLE), I can tell you that it's unlikely we will be devoting development resources toward it in any of our proposed roadmaps.
The only thing I might suggest experimenting with is uploading at least some of the clips without putting them through our transcode process, which you can do by holding shift as you drag a clip from the desktop into a Review. Odds are that it will cause a whole different set of misbehaviors, but you might get lucky and work out a magic combination of preprocessing files and uploading certain ones (i.e. odd aspect ratios) this way that works, or works "well enough".
