Support for HDR Video Workflows
Mike Jennings
Customers have expressed interest in support for HDR video in SyncSketch. HDR video workflows present some unique technical challenges. For example, the browser cannot access files directly from your local storage for security reasons. Therefore, the upload → transcode → download → display-and-review cycle is necessary, but expensive in terms of network bandwidth.
That said, we'd like our customers to describe the workflows they would like to enable, the pain points they want to eliminate by having HDR reviews, the toolchains in their media pipelines, and the controls and options they would expect to see and use, so that we can determine the best way forward.
Please add upvotes and comments so that we can make sure that our path forward will meet your specific needs!
If you would prefer to communicate confidentially, send an email to support@syncsketch.com and we will make sure that your feedback is incorporated into the feature planning privately and securely. We can also arrange a video call if that would be a more efficient use of your time.

Not sure if this should be a separate feature request, we have hdr encoded and tagged videos in our shotgun/shotgrid instance.
we are taking an hdr dnxhr444 12bit and using ffmpeg to convert it to an hdr video with the correct hdr tags.
Chrome , when running on a monitor that has windows hdr turned on, will flip to hdr mode if it recognises that the video in shotgun web player is encoded for hdr.
was wondering if this same functionality could be used when running that same video in the sync sketch app. right now if we try to load that hdr shotgun version/video in to syncsketch it looks washed out, because sync sketch doesnt understand the hdr tags.
I have provided a correctly tagged/ correct metadata mp4 that we transcoded for our shotgun/shogrid instance to Bryan. We have total control over the transcoded media in our shotgun/shotgrid instance, so our use case may differ here.
Can provide more information if needed.
Cheers

Kym Watts: Thanks for your clear explanation.
When videos are uploaded to SyncSketch, they are currently transcoded for an optimal balance of quality and responsiveness in the review player. However, currently that transcoding is not optimized for HDR content, and neither is the review player.
We will have to investigate what it will take to enable this workflow, and your post helps us do that, so thank you.
